National Waterways Museum Gloucester is inviting visitors to discover the vibrant colours and lettering used across England's waterways through history, as part of its 2026 summer theme, Written on the Waterways.

What's on at National Waterways Museum Gloucester this summer 2026?

Explore the designs, textures and words of the lettering used across England's canals during the museum's Written on the Waterways season, featuring exhibits from decorative hand-painted boat panels, to hard-wearing enamel signs.

With themed activities to take part in, families can discover the beautiful, eye-catching decoration that's brought vibrant colour to England's canal network through the eras, on a visit to Gloucester's historic docks this summer.

There's an array of other exciting exhibits to discover at the museum, too, from model ships, to a deep sea diving suit – and the museum also has its own tea room with waterside outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying an ice cream afterwards!

When is National Waterways Museum Gloucester's Written on the Waterways season?

The museum's Written on the Waterways season runs from Tuesday 21 July until Saturday 29 August 2026.

How much are tickets to National Waterways Museum Gloucester?

Museum day tickets start from £10 for adults, £6.36 for children aged five to 16 and are free of charge for children aged four and under. 

Concessions start from £9.09 and family tickets for two adults and two children are £25 – while an annual pass lets you drop in again and again, to make the most of the changing activities every school holiday, costing £20 for adults, £10 for children aged five and above, and £47 for a family of four.
