One of Gloucestershire's top 100 businesses, construction and waste management firm Smiths has announced the acquisition of the Oxfordshire operations of independent waste management business McCarthy Marland.
An announcement on the firm's website said it further strengthens Smiths' presence across the region and reinforces its commitment to delivering sustainable waste management services.
The acquisition, which completed on 18 September 2026, includes McCarthy Marland’s waste transfer station in Wantage and its associated collection operations. The addition enhances Smiths’ ability to serve customers throughout Oxfordshire and surrounding areas while supporting continued growth within its waste management division.

Featuring in 43rd position in SoGlos's Top 100 Businesses in Gloucestershire 2025 list, the Stonehouse-headquartered Smiths Gloucester Ltd is dedicated to the collection, treatment and disposal of non-hazardous waste and construction of civil engineering projects.
A business run by the Smith family since being founded in 1982 – and now employing two generations – it reported a turnover of £79.6 million in the year to September 2024, up from £73.3 million the previous year.
