Cheltenham College is giving families greater choice in how pupils experience life at the College, through a restructure of its day and boarding pathways.
The prestigious independent school, set on a historic 75-acre campus in the heart of Cheltenham, is introducing five new pathways for pupils from September 2027, providing options ranging from a day education to a fully immersive boarding experience throughout term time.
The College says the new pathways – day, extended day, flexi boarding, weekly boarding and full boarding – reflect the changing needs of modern family life, and its commitment to evolving its offer for the future, building on its established boarding ethos while creating more choice for families who want different levels of flexibility.
Recognising that every family's circumstances are different, its says the changes will allow parents to choose an arrangement that best suits their child and family lifestyle, while retaining the 'distinctive educational experience' for which the College is known.
Head of Cheltenham College, Chris Townsend, said: 'Families’ lives are changing, and we want Cheltenham to offer greater choice and flexibility while protecting everything that makes a Cheltenham education so special.
'Our new pathways will open up the college experience to a wider range of families, while full boarding will remain at the heart of our community.
'Whatever pathway a family chooses, every pupil will be fully part of the life, opportunities, and ambition of Cheltenham College.'
One of the country’s leading co-educational independent schools for boarding and day pupils aged 3 to 18, Cheltenham College was founded in 1841 as the first of the major Victorian public schools in England.
It provides a modern, all-round education, with pupils at the College consistently achieving outstanding results at A Level and GCSE, along with admissions to top-tier UK and US universities including Oxbridge and Ivy League.
Its pupils are encouraged to develop interests both inside and outside of the classroom, with plenty of extra-curricular activities to engage them, as well as a strong academic offering.
Full boarding continues to offer an immersive seven-day boarding experience, alongside options for pupils whose family circumstances are better suited to day, extended day, flexi or weekly boarding.
