Its shared whole-school values of integrity, kindness, pride, respect and responsibility underpins everything the school does, while its mission to ensure students leave as 'active and engaged citizens' with 'a strong sense of personal integrity and social responsibility' is evident across its approach.

From the subjects it champions, to its extracurricular learning provision, SoGlos explores what's on offer for students.

Academic learning at The Crypt School

The Crypt says the acquisition of knowledge and the ability to critically apply it is the foundation of its curriculum, enabling every individual to flourish in their learning.

Its balanced curriculum provides opportunities for all pupils to develop a broad and increasingly in-depth understanding of their world and their place within it, and acquire new skills, giving them confidence that prepares them for university, the world of work, and life in general.

The school has comprehensive STEM provision, with science that develops inquisitive minds into critical thinkers; design and technology which grows their skills of enquiry, creativity and evaluation; computer science that encourages creativity and problem solving; and mathematics that gives students key skills and knowledge that's essential for everyday life, and their understanding of the world around them.

In the humanities, its English curriculum fosters a deep understanding and appreciation of the English language, its rich literary heritage, and its myriad practical applications; history helps shape students’ historical and cultural perspectives, and worldview; and geography inspires students' awareness of the constantly changing world we live in.

Modern foreign languages helps them develop the confidence and knowledge to travel, work, and live abroad; religious studies, philosophy and ethics allows students to develop a sympathetic understanding of varied worldviews on major moral and philosophical issues; and personal development studies enables them to explore personal issues, relationships, and aspirations.

The Crypt School also prides itself on its arts provision, with drama giving students opportunities to collaborate, debate and realise their creative intentions; art balancing creativity with discovery to help them become resilient, reflective individuals; and music that's designed to educate, develop and inspire students to achieve their full potential.

In sport, PE and games enables students to discover new skills alongside important qualities such as perseverance, confidence, resilience, sportsmanship and teamwork; sports science at GCSE helps them develop a deep understanding of physiological and psychological effects of exercise; while food and nutrition prepares students for a healthy, happy, and purposeful life.

While at Sixth Form level, students can enhance their critical thinking with sociology that challenges them to ask deeper questions of society; psychology that empowers them to apply logic, analysis and creativity to explain complex human behaviours; and politics, that enables them to address the key political issues of the day in a balanced and informed manner.

Extracurricular learning at The Crypt School

The Crypt School students are encouraged to take part in activities that go beyond the curriculum throughout their school lives, too, helping them discover what it is that they love doing and providing them with the resources they need to follow their passions and hone their skills.

Engaging options for extracurricular learning include clubs and societies, trips and visits, and additional qualifications – like the Duke of Edinburgh Award or Extended Project Qualification.

Lunchtime and after school clubs allow students to dedicate extra time to subjects like music, history, IT, drama and sport — alongside those that are more unique or specialist, such as Dungeons and Dragons, or aviation.

Students also have opportunities to develop their skills in engineering — from computing, to robotics and aerospace — through taking part in national projects, events and competitions.

While Sixth Form students embark on a varied enrichment programme, which includes activities designed to boost health and wellbeing like cooking, sports and music; academic and work-related learning, ranging from science and engineering to drama; participation in the school community, including its three school parliaments and charity events; and even trips abroad.
