Gloucester's award-winning farm shop and cafe stays open during A40 roadworks

Over Farm Market and cafe remain open to visitors throughout the roadworks on the A40 in Gloucester.

Roadworks to repair Over Bridge on the A40 near Gloucester began this June 2026, with a 30mph speed limit and a combination of lane closures, full closures and contraflows in place until work is completed in March 2027.

But despite the disruption, Over Farm remains open – and it's reassuring the community that they can continue to visit its popular Over Farm Market and cafe throughout the roadworks.

Proud to be a destination for local food, local businesses and the local community, Over Farm Market is full of homegrown seasonal produce, as well as being home to a deli full of freshly made quiches, sweet and savoury bakes, and local cheeses; and one of the last remaining butcheries in Gloucester, manned by full-carcass trained butchers who can advise on everything from the best cuts of meat, to sauces and seasonings.

Its carefully curated product range champions local and family-owned businesses, supporting producers from across the county and helping shoppers stay local, so whether you're doing your weekly shop, or stopping in for something special, Over Farm Market continues to be there for customers.

In the cafe, Over Farm serves up fresh, made-to-order breakfasts and lunches, locally roasted coffee, and homemade cakes, in a friendly and welcoming space – from full English or veggie breakfasts and hearty baps, to soup of the day, savoury pastries, jacket potatoes, and 'doorstop' sandwiches and toasties.

Over Farm Market also offers free parking for customers and a click and collect service for online shoppers.

Following on from being crowned Family Day Out of the Year at the Gloucestershire Lifestyle & Community Awards 2026, Over Farm has a packed programme of farmyard family fun planned for the summer holidays, too, with its Big Summer Blowout taking place from Saturday 18 July until Friday 31 August 2026, with exciting activities happening every day.

And for a wholesome day out whatever your age, Over Farm's PYO strawberries field is also open now, and the strawberries are ripe for the picking all through the summer.

Over Farm is open seven days a week, with the farm shop open from 9am to 5pm Sunday to Wednesday, and 9am to 6pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the cafe open from 9am to 4pm – just be sure to allow some additional travel time to your visit while the roadworks are underway.
