Work begins on the new University of Gloucestershire dental school and NHS hub in Gloucester in April 2026.

A new dental school and treatment hub is set to open in Gloucester in 2027, as the University of Gloucestershire and NHS Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board confirm funding for the major £3 million project.

Located on the third floor of the University’s City Campus in Gloucester, the Three Counties Dental School will sit alongside the Gloucestershire Dental Treatment Hub – and is described as creating a modern facility for both education and patient care in the heart of the city.

Construction is due to begin in April 2026, with Gloucester-based Markey Building Services appointed to deliver the development, while the NHS is currently procuring a provider to operate the treatment hub.

The new school will initially launch Dental Hygiene programmes, expanding the University’s health education offer and helping tackle a recognised shortage of dental professionals across the region – and students will also benefit from placement opportunities within the on-site treatment hub.

From spring 2027, the Gloucestershire Dental Treatment Hub will provide NHS community dental services, including urgent appointments, routine care and targeted support for vulnerable patients. The facility will feature six treatment rooms, with extended evening and weekend availability aimed at improving access to care.

The scheme forms part of the wider regeneration of the former Debenhams building into City Campus. Vice-Chancellor of University of Gloucestershire, Dame Clare Marchant, says the development represents ‘a significant investment in both our students and the wider community’, while NHS leaders highlight its role in strengthening the future dental workforce and improving long-term access to care.
